Checklist for manual update on Citrix servers



1. Acrobat Reader
Download patch from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/

2. Java
Control Panel - type Java to find Java Control panel - Update now
Alternative: http://java.com/update
Do NOT accept to install any offer from the installer - only Java
(It should be possible to set "Supress sponsor offers..." in the Advance tab)
Note - if the customer has a published Java Control Applet - adjust the path to this application to the new version
Make sure settings are set NOT to automatic update Java

3. Flash
Open IE https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer
Do NOT accept any other options like Chrome or Google Toolbar
Set automatic updates to NEVER Check

4. Chrome
If installed, run Chrome - Help - About - and update from here

5. Firefox
If installed, update from Help - About
Note - if disabled, you will have to edit file mozilla.cfg -> and comment (//) these lines:
//lockPref("app.update.auto", false);
//lockPref("app.update.enabled", false);
Note - Firefox might need to update several times, so wait until you are up-to-date before removing the comments in the mozilla.cfg file back to:
lockPref("app.update.auto", false);
lockPref("app.update.enabled", false);

6. Windows Update
If the service is disabled, you need to set it to manual and then start it
When done - you can disable the Windows Update Service to avoid any automatic download/updates
Carefully select all updates that should apply
You should reboot the server and re-run Windows Update several times until it is 'green', because one update might trigger several other updates when first applied

7. CleanMgr
Run Disk Cleanup
If CleanMgr is not install - copy the two needed files to windows\system32 and windows\system32\en-US respective

Delete files in c:\temp
Delete files in %temp%
Delete files in c:\windows\temp

8. Defrag
Run full Defrag

9. When you think you are done
Windows Update Service = disabled, making sure no automatic updates are performed when not in maintenance weekend
Change any update Services from Adobe and Google StartUp type from Automatic to Disabled or Manual
Make sure to disable any Adobe and Google update in Scheduled Tasks
Check that there are no user-profiles that should not be in C:\Users, if so check user-rights in the users home and profile share folder for this user
Run msconfig and verify now unwanted programs is in the startup-group
